I Am Not Dead

1 min read
I just spend a lot of time making art that doesn't actually exist. I forgot that was how things worked here. I don't mind, but it sure does make a lot of people think I'm lazy. I'm not.

That website I've been talking about for ages? It's finally happening. It's partially up already, but we're still working through the kinks and adding content. In theory, it should be mostly up later tonight and fully worked out some time in August.

In other news, I'm leaving my gorgeous city of Boston and heading back for the Midwest. The irony isn't lost on me, but it's rare that you can have everything you want at once, so this is my attempt at compromise.

A lot has happened since I last posted here. I have work in two shows at the moment: SMFA Senior Projects 2009 and Violence Transformed, but insomnia told me I'm not allowed to remember any of the important details about them at this particular moment, so I guess I'll come back to that another time.

I've also been in several other exhibitions recently and my memory is failing me there too. Won some awards. Tentatively sold some prints for editions I haven't actually printed yet. Graduated (but should have maybe contemplated failing at that one to avoid the real world for another year or two.)

I need access to a print shop and rent money. Unfortunately the two contradict each other. Also, a website is in the works. Here's to hoping that helps with the rent money conundrum.

I have more prints I need to scan and hopefully I'll do that soon.

I haven't updated in a long time, although things have happened.

1. I received the Remis Scholarship!

About: The Robert and Ruth Remis Scholarship is a scholarship for artists of exceptional promise and merit awarded for the final year of their Diploma or BFA program.

2. I had two pieces (more accurately: an artists' book and a set of fifteen drawings) shown in the SMFA Student Annual 2008.

(I've been lazy and haven't posted content photos yet.)

and

System For Myself: (I've been even lazier and haven't posted any photos yet.)

When: Friday, February 15 - Saturday, March 8, 2008

Where: Grossman Gallery and Anderson Auditorium, SMFA

About: This juried, multimedia exhibition presents a comprehensive overview of work by current students. Included in the exhibition are the recipients of the 2007 Boit Awards for work created independently during the summer, the 2008 Dana Pond Awards in painting, the 2008 Yousuf Karsh Prize in photography, the 2008 Will and Elena Barnet Award in painting, and the 2008 Stella and Sumner Cooper Award for work in metals, glass, and ceramics.

3. I had one piece in the SMFA Drawing Exhibition 2008.

Where: Bag Galley and Atrium, SMFA

That's what's been exciting in my art life, I guess. There's a heatwave in Boston right now and it's making me feel useless and completely unmotivated so I haven't been accomplishing much. Hopefully it will go away and in doing so will inspire me to get back into the OCD swing of things. I have at least 400 hours of text stamping I need to get a start on...
